How solar energy works
When the sun shines, solar panels (or PV ‘photovoltaic’ panels) capture the sun’s rays and turn them into electricity. For this process, you need 3 things:
- The sun
- Solar panels (to convert energy (sunlight) in to DC electricity)
- An Inverter (to convert DC to AC for use in the home).
Your inverter is an integral part of the process. Without it, solar panels cannot turn the sunlight into electricity used in the home. Depending on where you live in Australia, the amount of electricity your solar energy system generates can vary – the hotter the sunlight, the more the system will produce.
